Upcoming Regional Events
CDA Chess Club members are encouraged to participate in regional and state tournaments. Here are the events currently on the calendar:
The Idaho Open is a two-day, US Chess-rated tournament taking place June 27–28, 2026, at the Riverside Hotel in Boise, featuring an Open section and an Under-1400 section with a 5-round Swiss format (G/90;d5). Registration is $60 per player (discounts available for ICA members and scholastic players), with prizes up to $500 for first place in the Open section and $100 in the U1400 section, based on 60+ paid registrations.
Our Monthly Club Tournaments
Every month at our Monday evening meetings, we run a themed multi-week tournament using our club rating system. These events are a huge part of what makes CDA Chess Club so vibrant — they bring fresh energy, friendly competition, and memorable moments to every gathering.
Apr. 30 - April Online Chess Tournament
Compete in the April Online Open, a Swiss-style chess tournament hosted by CDA Chess on April 30, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. Join players from around the world on Lichess for an evening of strategic battles and exciting gameplay!
How the Club Rating System Works
Our club uses an internal rating system similar in principle to USCF ratings. After each meeting, results are processed to update every member's rating based on who they played and the outcome. This ensures pairings are always fair and meaningful, and it gives every player a clear, trackable measure of improvement over time.
For larger events, we split into two sections: typically 1201+ (Legends) and 1200-and-under (Learners), so beginners aren't thrown into the deep end and stronger players always face real competition.
